Canvas Uplift Project

Beginning in S2, 2023, select first-year subjects have been put forward to participate in the Canvas Uplift Strategy. This is a process that aims to address two objectives.

  1. Optimising the use of Canvas among FBE academics
  2. Enhancing the student experience by improving the nature and delivery of digital media and learning experiences through Canvas

‘Uplift’ here means to actively provide support through consultation, guidance, and self-directed materials, to encourage going to the ‘next level’ as appropriate. For some, that may mean meeting minimum expectations; for others, it will be to take their teaching sites from an ’effective’ to ‘exemplary practice’. It’s important to note that we are not working to a prescriptive model, but ensuring certain ‘standards’ are met E.g. that ‘some tool’ is used for weekly communication with students.

A key component that is driving this is trying to find ways to make the Canvas experience “as positive as we can” – for both students and academics. This includes finding ways to improve the ease of updating / maintaining the Canvas site, along with efficiencies in developing for / using Canvas.

Part of this involves utilising learning environments templates and tools (as appropriate) to rapidly develop and roll out updates to the various sections of the Canvas site.

Below is an example of a Canvas Site that has utilised a Learning Environments template to present the structure and topics of a subject to help guide students and assist with the information organisation for the subject coordinator.
