Dean's letter: Welcome to Semester 2

Dear students,

Wominjeka and welcome to Semester 2, 2023. A warm welcome to all new members of the FBE community who are commencing studies this week. We are very pleased so many new students from overseas have joined us.

FBE staff and I are looking forward to seeing new students participating in orientation this week at The Spot. You can find a schedule of activities for BCom students here and for MBS students here.

As well as joining us for our planned activities, I recommend taking the time to become familiar or reacquainted with our student spaces at The Spot and the wider Parkville campus. The University has quiet places dedicated to study and collaboration, but also green areas to relax and socialise, and plenty of places to eat. The best way to find the University’s and Carlton’s best spots is to explore and find them.

A reminder that you are never alone at FBE. Please reach out for support if you need it, whether it be to improve your academic skills or for personal wellbeing. If you are keen to meet more fellow students, I suggest searching for a club or society at FBE or elsewhere at the University, or joining a sporting team.

I hope you enjoy returning to study, making new friends and reconnecting with peers. Remember to make the most of your time here. Question everything, seek evidence-based answers, consider big economic and social challenges, and most importantly, challenge yourself.

I look forward to seeing you around campus.
