"Designing Rubrics for Business Education"

Assessment rubrics offer the benefit of the explicit assessment and feedback of student learning in business education. Assessment rubrics explicitly articulate the marking criteria and assessment standards while providing students with consistent formative and constructive feedback ‘on/of’ and ‘for/as’ students learning of knowledge and skills as a continuous process. This PD opportunity will introduce you to the steps for designing assessment rubrics that assess knowledge and skills that align with your subject learning outcomes for an assessment task of your choice. You will be given the opportunity to work through the rubric development process to design or enhance your own assessment rubric with the aim of making assessment marking and feedback efficient and consistent.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the value of assessment rubrics to support and guide student learning ‘on’ and ‘for’ knowledge and skills in business education
  • Recognise the advantages and challenges of assessment rubrics
  • Provide practical tips, strategies, and templates for assessment rubric development for your subject’s assessment.
  • Plan and develop an assessment rubric for a chosen assessment task in your subject
