Embracing Growth: My Journey on Global Business Practicum London

By Byambanaran (Suki) Batmandakh

As I embarked on my journey towards a master's degree, I was impressed by the exceptional academic reputation and the array of diverse opportunities available in my chosen course – Master of Management (Finance). Among these opportunities was the Global Business Practicum, a Work Integrated Learning elective, which stood apart from the university's regular curriculum by offering a unique experiential learning opportunity.

Background

I was among the 20 students who secured a spot through a highly competitive selection process for the Global Business Practicum subject. The successful group headed to London for the experience.

At the core of this course is collaboration. Students were organised into teams of four and assigned to different host organisations. Each team worked on a management consulting task that comprised of a genuine business opportunity or issue.

Experience at NAB Europe

My team had the privilege of collaborating with the National Australia Bank-Europe (NAB Europe) on a project titled "The Future of the Workforce." This initiative aimed to identify emerging trends impacting the employee value proposition and gain insights into the future landscape of the workplace across all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

The project was not merely an academic exercise; it constituted a genuine business opportunity. The real-world application of knowledge allowed me to immerse myself and our team in addressing a tangible issue in management consulting, working closely with the Leadership Team of NAB-London.

As we commenced work at the NAB-London office, our interactions with the Leadership Team proved to be incredibly inspiring, offering invaluable insights and motivation as we delved into our project tasks. Initially seeking professional knowledge and practical skills, I was pleasantly surprised by how collaborative teamwork positively impacted my personal and professional development. Working within a team proved to be both rewarding and challenging as diverse perspectives converged to tackle complex problems.

Highlights and learnings

The highlight of my experience was undoubtedly the final presentation. The sense of accomplishment and camaraderie in the room emphasised the significant transformation we had undergone on our journey. As I stood before the audience, I realised the profound impact of our collective efforts in shaping organisational strategies, fostering innovation and tackling real-world issues.

The experience sharpened my technical skills and provided valuable insights into my career interests. It reaffirmed my belief in the power of collaborative teamwork and instilled a deep commitment to fostering inclusive work environments.

In three words, my experience can be described as transformative, collaborative, and enriching. I wholeheartedly recommend this subject to aspiring professionals looking to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The invaluable lessons learned transcend traditional boundaries, equipping individuals with the skills and resilience needed to thrive in diverse work environments.

I sincerely thank our host organisation, NAB-Europe, for their support and guidance throughout this journey. Their partnership has been instrumental in shaping our learning experience and fostering meaningful connections within the business community.
