Grant Thornton Ireland: A Transformative Journey

Embarking on a journey to Ireland to undertake the Global Business Practicum subject at Grant Thornton, with three fellow students, provided me with a deep dive into the world of strategic decision-making in a global context. This experience, while short-lived, left an indelible mark on my professional journey, offering insights into stakeholder engagement, teamwork dynamics, and the nuances of organisational culture.
Journey
This opportunity was presented to me when I was seeking to understand the global business landscape. Assigned to a consulting project, I worked alongside two equally talented teammates who were also undertaking this subject. Despite coming from different academic backgrounds, we worked collaboratively to produce the best work for our host company. The work entailed research, observation, and situation analysis. Throughout this subject, I grew personally and professionally. I was able to identify my core strengths and further work on them. This experience taught me the value of working with integrity and passion.
Before undertaking this subject, my understanding of consulting was limited. Specifically, the intricacies of strategy consulting were not fully clear to me. Working within the Strategy and Planning team, at Grant Thornton, opened my eyes to the creativity, innovation, and business acumen required in the field of consulting. Witnessing the dedication of the team members, particularly our project supervisor, also reinforced the importance of humility.
Key Learnings
Cultural Adaptability
Adapting to Irish culture was a significant learning curve throughout the project. Understanding the differences in working styles and communication norms between Ireland, Australia, and India broadened my perspective. This adaptability improved my communication with locals and clients, positively impacting my performance at the firm.
