Dean’s Letter – End of Semester 2, 2024

Dear students,

We are now entering a pivotal time in the semester where you will take everything you have learnt in your lectures and tutorials and apply it in examinations. I hope you feel prepared and confident heading into the final assessments of the year.

It is also an important time to look after yourself, especially your mental health, as the pressure of examinations can naturally cause stress and anxiety. I encourage you to engage with the resources prepared by the University for study-related stress. There are wellness resources at your disposal should you need them and information on how to reach out for more help.

I understand that many of you may be wondering how the international student caps proposal from the Federal Government will affect you. The University has a dedicated website that is regularly updated with information about the caps and a frequently asked questions section that covers questions you may have.

You may have noticed the new Alumni Wall in the foyer of The Spot recognising alumni for their exceptional impact and contributions to the economy and society. This week, we will be launching our year-long celebration of the Faculty of Business and Economics’ 100th anniversary, including an oration from former staff member Prof James A. Robinson, who just won a Nobel Prize for economics. Over the next twelve months, we will reflect on a century of impactful teaching, learning and research excellence with events and commemorative merchandise. More information will be shared with you in due course.

For our graduating cohort, this is indeed a very exciting time of year. I look forward to seeing you all at the graduation ceremony in December and I know many of our teaching staff will also be in attendance to celebrate your achievements. If you are preparing to enter the job market, the University offers support and resources that will aid you in putting your best foot forward and landing an ideal position. For those of you continuing your studies next year, there are internship opportunities for Bachelor of Commerce and MBS students.

There is also a broad selection of student exchange opportunities available with over 200 partner universities for a unique co-curricular experience. Applications for Semester Two, 2025, close November 25 so get your application in before the deadline closes.

I wish you all the very best for the final months of 2024. I hope to see many of you back on campus in 2025 and perhaps, one day, you too will be up on the Alumni Wall.

All the best,

Professor Paul Kofman
