Plenary 2 - Social Sustainability in Supply Chains

Social sustainability, one of key pillars of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), has attracted  tremendous attentions in both academia and industry. This panel will invite eminent scholars and senior executives to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising in the social aspects across supply chains, including upstream suppliers, operations, and downstream customers. The speakers will also showcase effective approaches in enhancing social sustainability from their extensive experiences.

  • Challenges: What are the key challenges faced in managing social sustainability in supply chains?
  • Opportunities: What opportunities can academics and managers see to help organisations manage and execute social sustainability more effectively and efficiently in supply chains?

  • Challenge: What are the hurdles limiting the implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives as well as scope 1,2,3 reporting?
  • Opportunities: What opportunities are there to improve the environmental sustainability performance of supply chains and transport systems and how can industry and academia collaborate on this?
  • Actions: What is the sequence of actions to be taken for more environmentally sustainable supply chains and logistics systems?

Advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoTs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics (BDA), and Blockchain (BC) are expected to significantly improve sustainability practices in logistics and supply chain management.  This panel includes a variety of topics relevant to emerging Technologies and sustainability in supply chains and transport and the challenges and opportunities corresponding to this theme in the industry and academia.

  • Challenge: What are the hurdles limiting the implementation of these technologies for sustainability purposes?
  • Opportunities: What opportunities are there to improve the sustainability performance of supply chains and transport systems through digitalisation (using cutting-edge technologies); and how can industry and academia collaborate on this?
  • Actions: What are the sequences of actions to be taken for a more sustainable supply chains and logistics systems through digitalisation?
