This training module:

  • offers insight into the legislative framework supporting people with disabilities
  • provides practical strategies to raise awareness about the lived experiences of students and staff with disabilities.

Understanding the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Approximately 80-85% of disabilities are non-visible, including autism, dementia, mental health issues, and chronic illnesses.

Workplace Accessibility & Injury Support (WAIS)

WAIS stands for Workplace Accessibility and Injury Support, a team at the University of Melbourne that helps employees return to work safely and quickly after a workplace injury or illness. The WAIS team works with employees, their supervisors, treating practitioners, etc. to create a return-to-work plan that follows WorkSafe Victoria guidelines.

Personal Emergency Plan

Personal Emergency Plans (PEPs) are designed for any individuals within the University community who may require specific support or arrangements during emergencies due to personal circumstances, such as medical conditions or mobility limitations.



Employee Assistance Program with Assure

Assure is one of Australia’s leading EAP and wellbeing providers, delivering coaching, counselling and wellbeing support and services to employees and their family members to help them successfully navigate the ups and downs of life.

Diversity Council Australia (DCA)

DCA offers strategies for equitable professional growth and inclusive workplace practices.
University staff have free access to DCA’s extensive library of research and best practices on workplace inclusion.

Australian Network on Disability (AND)

AND offers specialised programs and resources to support employers and employees with disabilities.
