Graduate Certificate in Business pathway
As well as being a stand-alone degree, the online Graduate Certificate in Business can be used as a pathway for guaranteed entry into an on-campus Master degree.
In addition to obtaining guaranteed entry based on your results in the Graduate Certificate, applicants who complete the appropriate subjects in the Graduate Certificate will also receive 50 points advanced standing in the relevant Masters degree, reducing the duration to 1.5 years.
This pathway is available for the following courses:
- Master of International Business
- Master of Management
- Master of Management (Accounting)
(Students with an Accounting major in prior studies are excluded from the Master of Management (Accounting)) - Master of Management (Entrepreneurship and Innovation)
- Master of Management (Finance) (Students with a Finance major in prior studies are excluded from the Master of Management (Finance))
- Master of Management (Human Resources)
- Master of Management (Marketing)
- Master of Management (Supply Chain Management)
Eligibility criteria
There is no minimum entry mark for entry into the Graduate Certificate in Business but applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline and meet the University of Melbourne’s English language requirements.
Students intending to go on to enrol in the on-campus Masters using their Graduate Certificate of Business results must:
- achieve a minimum score of 70 within the Graduate Certificate, with no fails (Note: a score of 75 is required for entry to the Master of Management (Finance));
AND
- choose the pre-approved subjects for their intended Masters course to receive full advanced standing (credit) to enter the 150 point (1.5 year) Masters.
Pre‑Approved Advanced Standing (credit) Arrangements
To receive the maximum credit, students must enrol in the correct set of subjects within the Graduate Certificate of Business.

You must achieve the eligibility criteria above to progress to your intended Masters.
You must enrol in the subjects with pre-approved Advanced Standing (credit) arrangements described above to receive the maximum credit to enter your intended 150 point Masters.

Receive your Masters offer
If you apply before you complete the Graduate Certificate of Business, you will receive a conditional offer. To receive an unconditional offer, you need to complete your Graduate Certificate in Business and meet all eligibility criteria for entry into your chosen Masters.
