Silvia Zia

Silvia Zia is a Lecturer (Education Focused) in the Department of Finance at the University of Melbourne, having joined in 2023. She brings extensive experience in quantitative research, innovative teaching practices, simulation trading, curriculum development, and course design across several Australian universities, including Monash University, RMIT, and the Charles Sturt University (CSU).
Her teaching excellence has been recognized through multiple accolades, including the Dean's Commendation for Teaching Excellence, College of Business Learning & Teaching Achievement Award for Innovation in Curricula, Learning & Teaching, and many Purple Letters from the Dean for outstanding student evaluations.
Prior to her current role, Silvia held positions as an associate lecturer, lecturer, and senior lecturer in Finance at RMIT University. She also worked as a lead tutor and teaching associate at Monash University in the Department of Banking and Finance.
Silvia earned her PhD in Corporate Finance from RMIT University in 2009. Her research focuses on corporate finance, capital structure determinants, empirical finance, social science, and financial literacy. She has published in leading academic journals, including International Review of Economics & Finance, Economic Modelling, The North American Journal of Economics and Finance, and PLOS One.
