Silvia Zia is a teaching specialist in the Department of Finance under the Faculty of Business and Economics. She has previously worked as an associate lecturer, lecturer and a senior lecturer in Finance at RMIT University. Before joining the University of Melbourne, she was working as a lead tutor and a teaching associate at Monash University in the Department of Banking and Finance. Dr Silvia Zia received her PhD in Corporate Finance from RMIT University, a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA honours) in Banking & Finance from University of Dhaka, completed three courses of Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (Teaching and Learning) at RMIT University and participated in an intensive 3 months bootcamp program in FinTech at Monash University. Silvia's research focuses on corporate finance, capital structure determinants, empirical finance, social science and financial literacy. She has number of publications in leading academic journals, including International Review of Economics & Finance, Economic Modelling, The North American Journal of Economics and Finance and PLOS One.
