From 2025, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students applying for graduate courses at FBE will be automatically considered for 100 per cent fee remission.
The Business and Economics Indigenous Graduate Scholarship means tuition will be free for the duration of the course.
This includes the Graduate Certificate of Indigenous Business Leadership (GCIBL) offered by the Dilin Duwa Centre for Indigenous Business Leadership.
Under the cultural and strategic guidance of an Indigenous Advisory Group, Dilin Duwa is a collaboration between the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business and Economics and Melbourne Business School. It is committed to the pursuit of equity for Australia’s First Nations people in the economic life of the country.
In the Woi Wurrung language of the Wurundjeri people on whose land the Centre is based, ‘Dilin Duwa’ means everlasting flow. It signifies the convergence of the three activity streams—engagement, research and programs—into a centre of impact.
The Graduate Certificate of Indigenous Business Leadership equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in critical thinking, communication and leadership across various sectors, and acts as a pathway to the Master of Indigenous Business Leadership.
It is comprised of 100 per cent Indigenous content and is designed for Indigenous business owners, professionals and managers at different stages in their careers, including recent graduates, established practitioners and those seeking to move in new directions.
The online GCIBL course is taught by internationally renowned First Nations experts and is unique in Australia.
It allows students to delve into issues around culture, trauma and the impact of colonialism in a safe learning environment.
“The GCIBL is unique in Australian university business program offerings in that its student cohort, academics, course delivery and content exemplify being for, with and by Mob,” said Dr Mark Jones, lecturer of Indigenous Programmes at the University of Melbourne.
Alongside being Dilin Duwa’s Programs Stream Lead and MURRA Director, Dr Jones recently graduated from the GCIBL course.
The Master of Indigenous Business Leadership is a new graduate degree with coursework to be launched in 2025 by Dilin Duwa. Students who complete the Graduate Certificate of Indigenous Business Leadership will automatically be offered the Business and Economics Indigenous Graduate Scholarship to study the Master of Indigenous Business Leadership.
“The Master is important for two reasons,” explains Dr Evans.
“It will help to develop the next generation of First Australian leaders who will advocate for economic self-determination, business success and their communities. Secondly, there is a research pathway for people who are interested in pursuing a PhD in the area of Indigenous business which is so important to policy development and research initiatives for, by and with First Peoples.”
