University of Melbourne has recorded year on year growth across three of its core disciplines for 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.
The strong upward momentum in global subject rankings for 2026:
- Accounting and Finance improved from 27 to 24, now in the top 25, for 2026.
- Business and Management Studies rising from 50 in 2025 to equal 42, one of the strongest gains.
- Economics and Econometrics continued its upward trajectory, from 45 in 2025 to 43
Overall, the results mark a year of positive momentum for the Faculty, with improved global rankings in key disciplines and continued strong performance across its academic portfolio.
Dean Paul Kofman said the Faculty of Business and Economics delivers a robust, adaptive education and curriculum to prepare students to shape the ever-evolving landscape of global policy, governance and business.

The rankings assess universities across the five broad subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Management.
Institutions are evaluated on several key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact.
The University of Melbourne has ranked in the top 20 globally in three broad subject areas and in the top 50 for the remaining two.
The University of Melbourne is the only Australian university ranked in the top 50 across all five broad subject areas in 2026 and leads nationally in 22 of the narrow subjects.
