Dean’s Letter – Start of Semester 2, 2025

Dear students,

A warm welcome back to campus for Semester 2. To those joining us as new students in the mid-year intake, welcome to the Faculty of Business and Economics community. For our returning students, I trust your break was enjoyable and that you're now feeling refreshed and eager to dive back into your studies.

Orientation week is an exciting time on campus, and our Student Belonging team has organised activities and events that will prepare you for your first day of class. For more information about what is happening during Melbourne Orientation, please visit the dedicated webpage.

Our faculty offers many unique learning opportunities outside of the classroom, and I encourage you to make the most of what is available to you. Applications for global consulting subjects and Career Discovery Immersion in Semester 2 are now open to all FBE students. You will find more information on the FBE Student Calendar.

Social connection, inclusion and acceptance are very important, and there are many clubs, societies and sporting teams looking for new members. I would like to remind you that you are never alone at FBE and the University of Melbourne. Please reach out if you need support, whether it be to improve your academic skills or for your personal wellbeing. You can also visit the FBE Wellbeing Hub at 99 Barry St and Stop 1 at 757 Swanston St for help.

The SafeZone App is also a resource available to all students that I encourage you to consider downloading on your phone. It is a direct line to University Security should you need assistance. You can also book a free security escort if you ever feel unsafe getting around the Parkville campus.

All the best for the semester ahead,

Professor Paul Kofman

Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics
