Dean Paul Kofman congratulates new Melbourne Business School Dean, farewells Professor Ian Harper

Dr Jenny George has been announced as the new Dean of Melbourne Business School and Co-Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne.

I would like to sincerely welcome Dr Jenny George as the new Dean of Melbourne Business School and Co-Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne.

Dr George returns to the School after first becoming Dean of MBS in 2009 with an impressive career in academia and in the industry. Her experience and leadership will be invaluable as MBS and FBE navigate the changing landscape of business education and research together.

I also acknowledge the many contributions of Professor Ian Harper AO who is retiring as Dean. I am profoundly grateful to Professor Harper, both professionally and personally, for writing a new chapter in the University’s collaboration with MBS.

His exemplary leadership, dedication, integrity, and forethought over the past six years have been invaluable in strengthening the relationship between MBS and the University of Melbourne.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Professor Harper, raising the profile of business and economics at the University of Melbourne, in particular, building strong relationships with the public, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors.

Notable joint projects include collaborating on the launch of the Dilin Duwa Centre for Indigenous Business Leadership, the Institute for the Future of Business, and winning re-accreditation of the School and Faculty of Business and Economics by US and European accreditation agencies - all of which could only be achieved by working together.

I look forward to working closely with Dr George as Co-Deans and seeing where the future takes our two institutions and wish Professor Harper the best in his future endeavours.

Dean, Professor Paul Kofman
