Governance

The University's diversity and inclusion efforts are guided by comprehensive policies, strategies and action plans designed to create a more inclusive and equitable academic environment.

  • The Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) and Melbourne Business School (MBSL) are launching a new strategy to improve gender balance and equity. Under the Gender Equity strategy, the two institutions will recruit, develop, support, and promote more women to senior academic and leadership positions.

  • FBE is committed to addressing the under-representation of women in academic positions and achieving parity in gender representation. In the FBE action plan 2023-2026, we present initiatives in the areas of recruitment, support and development, career progression, and leadership for women in the Faculty.

  • The Gender Equality Action Plan 2022-2025 supports the advancement and embedding of diversity and inclusion principles at the University to create enduring and widespread cultural change.

  • The Gender Affirmation Policy sets out the University's support for staff and students in affirming their gender identities.

  • University of Melbourne is one of the 43 organisations including universities and research agencies to participate in the Athena Swan Charter in Australia, a framework that enables structural and cultural change to achieve gender equity and has been successfully implemented in the UK. In 2020, The University of Melbourne achieved Bronze Award status. We are committed to this initiative and are excited to improve gender equity.
