Melia Famiola (melia.famiola@sbm-itb.ac.id) is a Lecturer at the School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB), Indonesia, and Deputy Director at the Directorate of Science and Technology Park (DKST) ITB. Her work focuses on how innovation ecosystems in emerging Asian economies can accelerate sustainable economic transformation through the integration of business, technology, and community-based approaches.
Her research lies at the intersection of sustainability transitions, social innovation, and technology commercialization, with a particular interest in how developing countries can move beyond resource-based growth toward innovation-driven and impact-oriented economies. She has been actively involved in multi-country collaborations across Indonesia, Japan, and Australia, contributing to research on circular economy, energy transition, and inclusive development pathways.
At DKST ITB, she leads initiatives that bridge university research with industry and policy, supporting the development of innovation ecosystems and commercialization pathways. Her work reflects a broader agenda of positioning universities as key actors in regional innovation systems across Asia.
Beyond academia, Dr. Famiola founded the Teras Hijau Project, a community-based circular economy living lab in Bandung, and BisnisHijau, an incubation platform for green SMEs. These initiatives provide real-world experimentation on how grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship can contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
She holds a PhD in Management from Macquarie University, Australia, and actively contributes to advancing responsible management education as part of the UN-PRME network in ASEAN.
