Student Ambassador Program

Build the skills employers are looking for, make new friends and become the face of FBE by joining the BCom Student Ambassador Program.

This program puts senior students in touch with prospective and early degree students to provide help and advice.

About the program

Becoming a Student Ambassador gives you the opportunity to:

  • Give back to the student community - by helping new students transition to University life
  • Socialise and build networks - meet new friends and gain access to a network of student leaders
  • Develop your leadership skills - attend professional development workshops and gain the skills that will make you stand out!
  • Become the face of FBE- represent the Faculty of Business and Economics by getting involved in marketing and recruitment collateral, video and social media campaigns
  • Get recognised - student ambassadors will receive a Certificate of Recognition and access to exclusive free merchandise.

What we are looking for

To be a Student Ambassador you must possess the following:

  • Public speaking skills
  • Facilitation skills
  • An outgoing personality
  • Knowledge of FBE Programs
  • Rich experience with student life across the university  (UMSU, Academic Skills, Careers & Employability Resources, sports clubs, wellbeing support, counselling services, where to go for help)

Eligibility

Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed at least 50 points of study as a BCom student,
  • Been actively involved in the student community through faculty programs and events, clubs and societies etc.,
  • Have a genuine interest in giving back - as a student ambassador you will be guiding new students through their first year at university,
  • Be able to commit to the entire program's activities,
  • Be available to assist at key university events including recruitment events - please see Attendance requirements and key dates.

Attendance requirements and key dates

Student ambassadors are expected to devote approximately 16 hours to the program across one academic semester.

In addition, you will also be expected to attend:

  • Online assessment centre (Thursday 23 June)
  • A compulsory briefing session (Thursday 13 July)
  • BCom Orientation (Monday 18 July - Friday 22 July)
  • BCom Community Building Activities such as Don’t Be Shy, Just Say Hi initiatives
  • Open Day events
