Inclusive Business Education: Applying Principles of Universal Design
Professional Development Workshop
Universal design is the practice of developing products and services which meet the needs of as many people as possible without modification. As our student cohort is becoming increasingly diverse, universal design for instruction (UDI) offers timely strategies for inclusive business educators.
During this workshop participants will be introduced to the nine principles of UDI (equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive, perceivable, tolerance for errors, low physical effort, size and space for appropriate use, community of learners and instructional climate) and how they might play out in their teaching. Participants will be joined into a Canvas community site so they can access related resources at their convenience.
On completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the needs of our diverse student community
- Apply appropriate strategies within one’s teaching for face-to-face, online or blended delivery
- Recognise and recall principles of universal design for instruction
