Strengthening the research teaching nexus for Master of Management (Finance) Students

A collection of 6 research portfolio videos has been developed and incorporated into the curriculum of the FNCE90060 Financial Management, a foundation subject in Finance for the Master of Management suite programs, to strengthen the research-teaching nexus. Each video is 3-min long featuring an academic researcher in the Department of Finance that specializes in the research area that is covered in the scope of FNCE90060 talking about their area of research and their most interesting findings in a style that is suitable for MM(Fin) students’ level of understanding and relevant to their current curriculum.  Andrea and her co-investigators, Yoon and Maurice, will present the process of developing these videos, how they have incorporated these research portfolio videos into the teaching of FNCE90060 to enhance students’ learning experience by building the connection between the department’s outstanding research expertise and teaching while helping students to better achieve their learning goals.

Presenters:  

Dr Andrea Lu, Senior Lecturer, Department of Finance. Andrea is the Program Director of the Master of Management (Finance) program. Andrea obtained both MSc and PhD degrees in Finance from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (USA).  She has taught various finance subjects at the graduate level. Her research interests are empirical asset pricing, financial frictions and international finance.

Dr Yoon Kang Lee, Senior Lecturer, Department of Finance. Yoon is Subject Coordinator for Financial Management in the Master of Management (Finance) program. He earned his PhD in Finance at the Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business. He also holds an MS degree in Statistics from Stanford University, and a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Seoul National University. His research interests focus on empirical research in asset pricing, institutional asset management, and financial market frictions.

Dr Maurice McCourt, Senior Lecturer, Department of Finance. Maurice is Subject Coordinator for Financial Management in the Master of Management (Finance) program. He earned his PhD in Finance at ESSEC Paris, and he also an MBA from UCD Dublin, and a Masters degree in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin. His research interests focus on empirical finance, asset management, private equity, and mutual funds.
