Creating Engaging Online Learning Activities
This workshop will emphasize designing interactive activities to instil active learning in a shared virtual environment. The academics can develop strategies to shift students’ attention from just being a passive listener to actively participating in interactive and engaging learning by using various tools such as polls, quizzes, visual boards, etc.
Dr Valerie Cotronei-Baird, Learning and Teaching Specialist, WCLA. Valerie is a leader in the provision of learning and teaching advice. In her role she is primarily involved in working with academic teaching staff in the skill acquisition required to innovate teaching and assessment practices. Valerie’s research includes: the integration of employability skills in the business curriculum, the professional development of academic teaching staff, assessment and assessment criteria and feedback, engaging students in the classroom, collaborative learning and team-based assignments and online delivery.
Miriam is an Educational Designer at the Williams Centre for Learning Advancement. She is also a doctoral student at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Miriam has extensive experience in higher education which includes teaching, curriculum renewal and subject design. Her research interests are in designing online courses which are both innovative and accessible to students with diverse needs.
