Developing Canvas content for students with diverse needs
Online Professional Development Workshop
During this workshop participants will be introduced to various alternative formats (transcriptions, captioning, adjustable text, and descriptive text for images) and the tools we can use to create them. This includes Microsoft applications and Immersive Reader (embedded in Canvas). Usually targeted to accommodating students living with disability, such as a vision impairment or hearing loss, evidence shows that these strategies also benefit all students by enabling flexible learning.
On completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Identify the benefits of alternative formats
- Identify opportunities within your subjects for alternative formats
- Identify and apply tools that are readily available to create alternative formats
