Ekaterina Volkova joined the University of Melbourne in 2017 after receiving her PhD in Finance from Cornell University. Before her doctoral studies, Ekaterina obtained an MA in Economics from the New Economic School and an MS in Mathematics from Moscow State University.

Ekaterina’s research focuses primarily on corporate governance and the oversight of publicly traded companies. In particular, her work explores the impact of large shareholders and regulators, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice, on corporate policies and dynamics. The methodologies in her papers use textual analysis and basic machine learning applications to extract quantitative information from textual disclosures. Ekaterina’s papers have been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science.
