The Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) offers a wide array of opportunities for students to get real-world experience, and engage with outside companies. Bachelor of Commerce students Nichole Ruderman, Simone James and Hannah Kuang undertook the subject Management Consulting (MC) last semester and took some time out to walk us through their experience.

For Manela Gunawardena, a graduate degree from the University of Melbourne was an essential step towards her dream global career. Sri Lanka born Manela moved to Melbourne in 2016 to study the Master of Management (Accounting and Finance)- a qualification she knew would give her an advantage within the competitive financial industry. She now works for Melbourne-based firm Discover Financial Partners.

For the last ten years, the Melbourne Business Practicum has given Melbourne Business School (MBS) students the opportunity to go beyond the university walls and experience the professional world of their city. Now, for the first time, the program has expanded to Sydney, with a fresh collection of companies and partner organisations opening their doors to a practicum cohort. We caught up with Jessica Darmanin, one of the first students to take up this new, interstate opportunity.

Master of International Business Student Maria Cruz has travelled the world, taking an unconventional road to the University of Melbourne, seizing opportunities when they come her way, and seeking them out when they’re not as apparent. In Melbourne, that’s meant networking, and taking on challenges like the Business Practicum and working with the Melbourne Accelerator Program.

Anna Wu is in her final semester of her Master of Management (Accounting and Finance) degree. In July 2017, she completed the Melbourne Business Practicum (MBP) at the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB). She is now a graduate intern at AUASB, coordinating and assisting in several projects.
