The FBE Marketplace & Employability Skills Workshop Series

By Seth Robinson

As part of our offering for 2020, The Faculty of Business and Economics has been proud to host the digital Marketplace & Employability Skills Workshops.

Studying business and economics at the University of Melbourne has never been limited to the classroom. The academic curriculum is underpinned by the experience our students gain from connecting with their peers and our industry partners. In 2020, the event calendar has evolved to include the FBE Marketplace & Employability Skills Workshop Series of online workshops that gives students the opportunity to hone their skills and connect with industry.

This semester, students have been introduced to industry partners such as Wrike and Salesforce, with more to come.

‘It was a pleasure for Wrike to partner with the team at the University of Melbourne in their Marketplace Workshop, and having the opportunity to connect directly with students, who asked such insightful questions! We're moving into a project economy where collaboration is more important than ever before, and everyone in the workforce will need to leverage technology tools that can help them in creating alignment and help foster collaboration to empower productivity and quality work.’

-Natalie Ng, Wrike.

The workshops offer students the opportunity to develop important skills, that will set them apart and ensure they’re job ready upon graduation, with topics including, clear and effective communication, research and writing skills, business etiquette, video interviews, networking, critical thinking, sourcing internships, turning an idea into a business, and working in an online environment.

‘We're proud to have teamed up with The University of Melbourne to deliver an introductory Salesforce workshop in August 2020. It's never been more important to support today's workforce to learn the skills needed for jobs of the future.

In the workshop students learnt about our business, the role Salesforce plays for our customers and how to start a career with Salesforce skills. The virtual format for the workshop gave us the opportunity to reach more students and we saw high levels of engagement. The students posed some challenging and thought-provoking questions! We look forward to taking industry-led learning to the next level and continuing our work with the University of Melbourne.’
