Faculty saddened by the death of former Dean Dr Robert Clift

The Faculty of Business and Economics and the Melbourne Business School is deeply saddened by the death of Dr Robert Charles Clift.

- Dr Robert Charles Clift

Dr Clift was a valued staff member of almost 30 years at the University; leading a diverse and successful career. He earned the University’s first PhD in accounting in 1973, before he went on to serve as head of the Department of Accounting from 1978-82, and then as Dean of the formerly Faculty of Economics and Commerce during 1983-87.

In these capacities he made enormous contributions to faculty administration and to teaching and research in the accounting discipline.

He is particularly remembered for creating strong links with the accounting profession and for his outstanding mentorship and supervision of younger staff members and students enrolled in honours and post-graduate programs.

Our sincerest condolences go to his sons David, Jonathan and Vaughan, their partners, and the extended Clift family.
