2018 Award Recipients

  • Hugh Morgan AC - Outstanding Achievement Award

    An individual who has achieved long-term, sustained and outstanding achievement and leadership in business, government or the non-profit sector.

    Hugh Morgan AC (BCom 1965, LLB 1963)

    Mr Morgan has an outstanding business career. Perhaps most notably he was the CEO of Western Mining Corporation where he demonstrated strong leadership as well as skills in trade development. He has extensive experience serving on, and advising, national and international Boards, the breadth of which is truly remarkable and includes, the Reserve Bank of Australia, CSIRO, Alcoa Inc and the Lafarge International Advisory Board. Mr Morgan has a longstanding dedication to the wider community, including Trustee Emeritus of The Asia Society New York and Founding Chairman of the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre and as President of the NGV Foundation.

  • Craig Drummond - Leadership Award

    An individual who has achieved significant and recognised impact in business, government or the non-profit sector through leadership in career to date.

    Craig Drummond (BCom 1981)

    Mr Drummond’s award honours his outstanding leadership, accomplishments and impact in business across a variety of industries and international organisations, as well as his commitment to community service to a wide range of organisations including The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Scotch College, the Geelong Football Club, the Ian Potter Foundation, and the Drummond Foundation. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Medibank Private and has extensive experience in senior Executive Leadership roles of several major global companies, such as Bank of America Merrill Lynch and National Australia Bank.

  • The Hon Alex Chernov AC QC - Contribution to Faculty or University

    An individual who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the Faculty or the University, either through philanthropy, research, student impact or outstanding leadership, and which has benefited the reputation of the Faculty or University.

    The Hon Alex Chernov AC QC (BCom 1962, LLB (Hons) 1967, LLD 2012)

    The Hon Alex Chernov has shown a significant and sustained contribution to the University through his leadership as Deputy Chancellor, Chancellor, and the University Council. This award also recognises his achievement as one of our most successful alumni through his longstanding career as a barrister, QC, President of the Victorian Bar, then the Law Council of Australia, Vice President of LawAsia, Justice of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court and as Governor of Victoria. In addition, he has a breadth of community service involvement including Chair of the Grattan Institute, board member of the Ian Potter Foundation and a Patron for the Australian Friends of Asha which benefits more than 700,000 people across Delhi.

  • Jorden Lam - Rising Star for Young Alumni Award

    An individual who is aged 35 and under and has demonstrated an outstanding level of professional achievement and community involvement since graduating from the University of Melbourne and/or recognition by colleagues and peers of outstanding leadership and impact as a global citizen.

    Jorden Lam (BCom 2010, LLB 2010, LLM 2014)

    Ms Lam’s award recognises her professional achievement, community service and leadership to date. She is a key member of the HESTA leadership team which, at such a young age, demonstrates her incredible work ethic and commitment to excellence. In addition to her interest in advising on good corporate governance practice, she is also involved in improving outcomes for consumers in the public healthcare system, including contributing to organisations such as Monash Health, BreastScreen Victoria and Ambulance Victoria.
