  • Peter Scanlon AO - Outstanding Achievement Award

    Peter Scanlon AO (BCom (Hons) 1966)

    Mr Scanlon is the Chair and founder of Taverners Group, a private family company with a range of diversified businesses and investments. He has held numerous board positions in public companies, including Director and Chair of Patrick Corporation (1991 – 2007). Chair of Wormald International (1993 – 1995) and Deputy Chair of AFP Corporation (1989 -1998). He was an AFL Commissioner (1984 – 1993). He was Chairman of the TAB from 1993 to 1995, setting up the transition from public to private ownership. Mr Scanlon is the Chair of the Migration Council Australia and a Director of the Grattan Institute. The Migration Council Australia (MCA) is an independent non-partisan not-for-profit body established to enhance the productive benefits of Australia’s migration and humanitarian programs. The Grattan Institute is an independent think tank dedicated to developing high quality public policy for Australia. Peter Scanlon is also the Chair of the Scanlon Foundation. The Foundations primary focus is fostering social cohesion. The foundation funds a range of activities, including social survey research into attitudes to migration and projects to promote the participation of new migrants.

  • Jennifer Nason - Leadership Award

    Jennifer Nason (BCom (Hons) 1983, BA 1980)

    Ms. Nason is the firm’s Global Chairman of Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) Investment Banking based in New York. Ms. Nason has been with J.P. Morgan for 30 years having joined the Melbourne, Australia office in 1986. After an initial period working in Asia as part of the Project Finance team she relocated to New York where she spent several years in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group. In 1998 Ms. Nason joined the TMT group within Investment Banking as head of the Telecommunications practice with a focus on strategic M&A, debt and equity financing for the firm’s key relationships in this sector. Today as the Global Chairman of the TMT Investment Banking practice, Ms. Nason is responsible for traditional and emerging clients across the technology, media and telecom sectors globally. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Ms. Nason spent three years with the Department of Management and Budget in Australia as an infrastructure project analyst. In 2014, Ms. Nason was a Member of the Australian Government Panel charged with reviewing the Australian financial system. Ms. Nason currently Chairs the Board of the American Australian Association and is a Member of the Economic Club of New York and the Partnership for New York City Innovation Council. She lives in New York with her four children.

  • Kevin Wong - Contribution to Faculty or University Award

    Kevin Wong (BCom 178)

    Kevin had an 18-year career in investment banking with JP Morgan across Asia-Pacific, before retiring as Managing Director and Senior Country Officer of JP Morgan in Malaysia. Following his retirement, Kevin was appointed non-executive Chairman of JP Morgan in Malaysia, a position he held until 2014. Before JP Morgan, Kevin was with the National Companies & Securities Commission in Melbourne. Prior to that, he was in the chartered accounting profession. Kevin has held roles as a director on the Board of the Faculty of Business & Economics (2007-2014) and its Foundation, a member of Council (2004-2011) and Deputy Chair of International House. He has mentored Business and Economics students since 2004 and played a key role in supporting the University of Melbourne Malaysian Alumni Association.

  • Hillan Klein - Rising Star Award for Young Alumni

    Hillan Klein (MApp Com 2008)

    Hillan was born in South Africa and grew up in Melbourne, Australia. With a strong foundation in technology, design and business management, Hillan worked in a variety of different fields, including retail, online customer experience, non-profit organisations, and a large corporation. Hillan currently serves as Chief Operating Officer at Namecheap, the fastest growing Domain Registrar in the world. He leads a team of over 600 people supporting Namecheap’s 2.5 million customers and managing over 5.5 million domains globally. Hillan currently sits on the Board of Directors of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and acts as an advisor and mentor to many entrepreneurs in both Australia and New York City. In 2015, alongside his role as COO for Namecheap, Hillan worked with the CEO of a publicly traded Bio-Tech company on the Company’s strategy to disrupt and re-invent the role of digital technology in the industry. Previously, Hillan founded Budge, a social gaming platform that enables peer-to-peer activities which leads to raise funds on a micro-donation level for non-profit organizations through digital and social media. Before starting Budge, Hillan was Head of Social Media at the National Australia Bank, where he led the redesign of their 200M hit per month website. Hillan pioneered mobile banking at NAB by delivering the first iPad application within Australian financial services, followed shortly thereafter with NAB's official iPhone application. These services now account for over 25 per cent of NAB internet banking transactions and have been downloaded by over 650,000 Australian users.
