The Spot and FBE Buildings are scheduled to undergo construction works in 2024.
The Faculty of Business and Economics is investing in improving our shared spaces throughout 2024 and 2025 to ensure that students and staff work and study in the best environment possible.
Several key projects have already been completed, including refreshing The Spot foyer. The new entry airlock construction will commence after final exams on November 18, 2024.
The single revolving door will be replaced with four sets of glazed sliding doors allowing for improved accessibility into The Spot. The works will also include a windbreak wall and glazed airlock to alleviate wind entering the building. The purpose of the new entry airlock is to reduce the impact of high winds at the entrance of the building and pedestrian congestion from a single revolving door. This new entry will also provide a great accessibility upgrade. A feature chandelier will be suspended from the Airlock ceiling with timber rods and FBE Donor names engraved on the timber rods.

| Details | Due to the noisy and disruptive nature of this project, works have been programmed over the summer recess period with practical completion scheduled for February 2025, before Orientation Week commences. The main entry into The Spot Building will be closed for this period. The Contractor will install construction hoarding around the entrance of The Spot to delineate the work zone. A temporary entry/exit single door will be installed and alternative entry into The Spot can be accessed via the FBE Building, 111 Barry St or the Café Commercio west entry. Wayfinding signage will be installed at the front entry to advise of this change. Emergency egress routes through the building will be maintained. All excessively noisy works, including demolition and removal of the revolving door, will be scheduled outside business hours but there will be works during the day which may be distracting. At certain stages during the construction, pedestrians will be delineated around the corner of Berkeley St and Pelham St onto a closed bike lane via traffic management. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and a traffic controller will supervise. |
