WCLA Seminar - Simulations in Business Studies
FBE Building, 111 Barry Street Level 6, Room 6.30
There has been an increase in the use of simulations in business education. Textbook publishers and other commercial providers offer a range of products allowing students to practice ‘real-world’ situations. But how do we as educators make best use of such products?
This workshop will allow participants to consider how simulations can be used within their teaching by hearing from colleagues currently doing so:
André Gygax – Food Truck Challenge (Harvard Business Simulation). A tutorial activity in which pairs of students make informed decisions about their business (FNCE30006 Entrepreneurial Finance).
Matt Dyki and Maggie Singorahardjo – ERPsim. Working in teams, students assume roles managing the various business processes (sales, purchasing, manufacturing) to increase their company value as they compete against other teams in this SAP based simulation. The simulation also serves as a case study for students to explore a business process. (ACCT90030 Information Processes & Control)
Following these examples, you can reflect on how similar solutions can be used in your own subject.
