MBS Case Competition
Melbourne Business School, in collaboration with MBS Student Association, ShineWing and the Global Consulting Group (GCG), presents the MBS Case Competition! Put theory into practice by delivering a solution to a real-life business problem presented by our case and competition sponsor, ShineWing.
This competition is a great opportunity for you to experience working on a consulting project, especially if you have been thinking about applying for a practicum subject such as the Melbourne or Global Business Practicum. Participants will also have access to a number of exclusive workshops and an opportunity to impress and network with industry professionals.

Registrations Open: 9.00am Monday 6th March
Registrations Close: 5.00pm Friday 17th March
This semester, registration will be open to both teams and individual participants.
- Team Registrations: Register a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 team members.
- Individual Registrations: Individual submissions will be grouped into teams based on degree and academic background. Individuals will be advised by Saturday 18th March if they have successfully been placed in a team.
Please ensure that you and all participating team members read the competition Rules and Regulations prior to registering. Partcipation in this competition is subject to the acceptance of competition Rules and Regulations.
Presentations Skills Workshop
Date: 5.30 to 7.30pm on Wednesday, 8 March
Delivered by experienced voice and dialect coach, Anna McCrossin-Owen, as well as a representative from ShineWing, this workshop will introduce you to breathing, body and voice exercises to help you develop your confidence whilst also providing some tips on the nuts and bolts of delivering a presentation to a panel of judges.
This workshop has been tailored specifically for students intending to participate in this semester's MBS Case Competition, attendance is highly recommended.
Case Competition Launch
Date: Monday 20th March
Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Location: Multi-function Space, Level 2, The Spot (198 Berkeley Street, Carlton)
At the launch, representatives from ShineWing will provide teams with a case overview and crucial information regarding the case. Following on from this, GCG’s “Break the Case” Presentation will give participating teams insights and strategies on how to effectively approach the problem and deliver actionable insights.
Note: At least one member of each team must attend.
Documentation Due: Wednesday 23rd March
Finalised teams will be required to submit a pre-screening document which offers a brief overview of their case and strategy. The format, scope and other requirements of this document will revealed at the Case Competition Launch. The top 25 teams will be shortlisted to progress to the preliminary round.
Date: Tuesday 28th March
Time: 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Level 2, FBE Building, 111 Barry St. Carlton.
Teams that successfully progress through to the preliminary stage will be required to present their case for a panel of ShineWing representatives and GCG industry professionals at the preliminaries.
At the conclusion of the preliminary round, the top 5 highest performing teams will be chosen to progress to the finals.
Date: Friday 31st March
Time: 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: To be confirmed
In the final round of the Case Competition, the top 5 teams will present their case to a panel of ShineWing and GCG Representatives before the winners are selected. All MBS students are invited to watch.
