MBS Case Competition

Overview

Melbourne Business School, in partnership with MBS Student Association (MBSSA), Carlton United Breweries (CUB) and the Global Consulting Group (GCG), presents the MBS Case Competition!

Put theory into practice by delivering a solution to a real-world business case presented by our case and competition sponsor, Carlton United Breweries.

This competition is a great opportunity for you to experience working on a consulting project, especially if you have been thinking about applying for a practicum subject such as the Melbourne or Global Business Practicum. Participants will also have access to exclusive workshops and a chance to impress and network with industry professionals.

Furthermore, the top three teams will win a share of $1,000 cash.

Registrations

Registrations Open: 9:00am Thursday 3rd August
Registrations Close: 5:00pm Friday 11th August

Registration will be open to both teams and individual participants.

  • Team Registrations: Register a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 team members
  • Individual Registrations: It is encouraged that all individual participants visit and join MBSSA’s MBS Case Comp Public Facebook Group which aims to facilitate team formation.

Please ensure that all participating team members read the competition Rules and Regulations prior to registering. Participation in this competition is subject to the acceptance of the competition’s Rules and Regulations.

Key Dates

Case Competition Launch

Date: Monday 14th August
Time: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Location: Multifunction Room, Level 2, The Spot, 198 Berkeley Street

Representatives from Carlton United Breweries will first provide teams with a case overview and crucial information regarding the case. Following on from this, the committee will elaborate regarding the key dates and structure of the competition. Finally, the launch will conclude with an optional workshop by GCG to help the competing teams approach the problem effectively and deliver meaningful actionable plans.

Note: At least one member of each team must attend the Launch for the team to be eligible to participate.

Presentations Skills Workshop

Date: Tuesday 15th August
Time: 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Multifunction Room, Level 2, The Spot, 198 Berkeley Street

Delivered by experienced voice and dialect coach, Anna McCrossin-Owen, as well as a representative from our Carlton United Breweries, this workshop will introduce you to breathing, body and voice exercises to help you develop your confidence whilst also providing some tips on the nuts and bolts of delivering a presentation to a panel of judges.

This workshop has been tailored specifically for students intending to participate in this semester's MBS Case Competition, attendance is highly recommended.

Pre-Screening

Documentation Due: Thursday 17th August, 5:00pm

Finalised teams will be required to submit a pre-screening document which offers a brief overview of their case and strategy. The format, scope and other requirements of this document will be released at the Case Competition Launch.

Preliminary Round

Date: Tuesday 22nd August
Time: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Level 2, FBE Building, 111 Barry Street

Teams that successfully progress through to the preliminary stage will be required to present their case for a panel of Carlton United Breweries representatives and GCG industry professionals at the preliminaries.

At the conclusion of the preliminary round, the top 5 highest performing teams will be chosen to progress to the finals.

Finals

Date: Friday 25th August
Time: 5:00pm – 8:30pm
Location: Multifunction Room, Level 2, The Spot, 198 Berkeley Street

In the final round of the Case Competition, the top 5 teams will present their case to a panel of Carlton United Breweries and GCG Representatives and audience, before the winners are selected and announced.

All University of Melbourne students are invited to attend and watch.
