The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is offered for full time, Semester 1 entry only.
Applicants should note that students must commence the honours year within two years of completing the requirements of their Bachelor of Commerce degree. Applications are open to all students who meet the entry requirements.
To undertake the Honours year in a particular discipline; Accounting, Finance, Economics or Actuarial Studies, you may need to complete specific third-year subjects. Please check the University's Handbook for subject requirements and eligibility criteria in each discipline.
Please Note: The entry requirements for Honours in Accounting, Economics and Finance will change in 2019. In order to qualify for the Honours program in 2019 for either program you must meet the following criteria:
Accounting (2019 entry)
A grade of at least H2B (70%) in each of the third-year subjects within the major and successful completion of the third-year subject Econometrics 2 (ECOM30002), or equivalent quantitative studies.
Economics (2019 entry)
A grade of at least H2B (70%) in each of the following third-year subjects; Microeconomics, Macroeconomics & Econometrics. (Basic Econometrics will only meet entry requirements for 2018).
Finance (2019 entry)
A grade of at least H2B (70%) in each of the third-year subjects within the major and successful completion of Econometrics. (Basic Econometrics will only meet entry requirements for 2018).
The number of applicants selected will depend on the number of places available, noting that this varies from year to year, and selection is at the discretion of the relevant Head of Department. Entry is mainly based on academic performance and is very competitive.
Chancellor's Scholars who are admitted into the University of Melbourne's Bachelor of Commerce under a guaranteed entry pathway to a professional entry graduate course, such as the Juris Doctor, can undertake an Honours year and not jeopardise their guaranteed entry into their chosen graduate course.
The closing date for applications for the 2018 intake is Friday 17 November 2017.
Unfortunately late application cannot be considered. If you miss the deadline for 2017 and you meet the criteria for entry you are encourage to apply for the next intake in 2018.
Bachelor of Commerce students from the University of Melbourne who meet the entry criteria are invited to apply online.
Applicants who have completed their Bachelor degree at institution other than the University of Melbourne, you need to:
- Submit an application online
- Lodge an original or certified copy of your academic record, together with the official university handbook or course information, as well as complete subject lecture outlines for all third-year subjects attempted.
The entry requirements are the same for students who undertake their undergraduate studies from another university. Applications may be submitted prior to the release of final results, however, your application will not be processed until all the required information is received.
