Faculty Human Ethics Advisory Group
The Faculty Human Ethics Advisory Group (FHEAG) reviews and approves ethics applications and monitors on-going research projects involving human participants.
All staff and students conducting research that involves human participation must submit an application for human research ethics approval to the FHEAG. FHEAG is responsible for approving 'low risk' research projects undertaken by both students and staff. It also considers high risk projects to ensure a recommendation is forwarded to the Humanities and Applied Sciences Sub-Committee of the University's Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
The FHEAG composition, terms of reference, functions and responsibilities and method of operation conform to the requirements of the University of Melbourne Human Research Ethics Committee.
All research involving humans carried out at the University of Melbourne must be conducted in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans (1999) and other guidelines published from time to time by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
Applications should be submitted electronically via the Ethics module on your Themis workbench. All documents should be uploaded individually in pdf format.
One PDF attachment combining all documents should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by the relevant deadline. This should include a scan of the fully signed signature page of your application form.
When should I submit my application? See below
Researchers will be contacted by The Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) via email if they have a project that requires completion of an Annual Report.
Please refer to the Office for Research Ethics and Integrity website for step by step instructions on how to complete an Annual Report on your approved project.
Ethics Submission and Committee Dates 2017
