Richard V. Burkhauser appointed to President Trump’s Council of Economic Advisors

Richard V. Burkhauser, Professorial Research Fellow of the Melbourne Institute, Applied Economic and Social Research, has been named as the third and final member of the Council of Economic Advisors.

On 15 September, President Donald Trump appointed Professor Burkhauser to this prestigious group of academic economists, who advise the US president on economic policy.

Professor Burkhauser’s research focuses on how public policies influence the economic behavior and economic well-being of vulnerable populations and how levels and trends in income and income inequality have changed in the US and other countries.

Burkhauser received his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago. For the last six years he has shared his time between the University of Melbourne and Cornell University.

There are some outstanding public policy-focused scholars at the Melbourne Institute and I will miss my interactions with them. I look forward to visiting again, once I have completed my term on the Council Professor Burkhauser
