Expressions of Interest
In 2018, the Young Alumni Committee will have two positions to fill.
- Event Director - The main point of contact with venues and supplies for the annual Young Alumni Ball and quarterly Young Alumni Drinks.
- Marketing and Communications Director - Recommends social media strategy and organises posts
In addition, all members attend a monthly committee meeting (March to October), engage with and promote the Faculty's alumni activities, and on occasion may speak at student events to help raise the visibility of the alumni program.
To apply for these positions, you must be an alumnus of the Faculty of Business and Economics, aged 35 or under throughout 2018/2019, be passionate about staying connected with your Faculty and fellow alumni. Read more in the 'About the Committee' section of this page.

Expressions of interest will close on Sunday 7 January 2018 and we will seek to interview a short list of candidates by Thursday 25 January 2018.
About the Committee
The Young Alumni Committee represent the needs of the young alumni community. Its members offer guidance to the Faculty on the young alumni program to ensure that it is relevant and valuable, as well as running their own social activities, including the annual Business and Economics Young Alumni Ball.
The Committee also engage with current students to ensure they understand the value of staying connected to the alumni community after they graduate. Learn more about the Young Alumni Program.
The Committee, consisting of nine members, reports to the Faculty of Business and Economics Alumni Council via the Young Alumni Committee Chair.
Committee members serve for a maximum of two 2-year terms. With the exclusion of the Chair and President, new Committee members go through an interview process. When positions are available, young alumni will be invited to express their interest. The Chair and the President are appointed from the existing membership.
Aditya Chibber, Chair
Executive, Grant Samuel Corporate Finance (BCom (Hons) 2008).
Aditya is a Manager at Grant Samuel Corporate Finance and has previously worked at PwC and Goldman Sachs. He also serves on the Alumni Council for the Faculty of Business and Economics as Vice-Chair and is a Faculty Mentor for final year students. Aditya graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in 2008, specialising in Accounting and Finance. During his time at the University of Melbourne, Aditya actively involved himself with both the University and the Faculty. Aditya worked at the University of Melbourne as a tutor and part-time lecturer and was the Organising Committee President for AIESEC in 2005. In 2008, he was selected to attend the Future Leaders Forum and was the recipient of an Honours scholarship.
Melanie Alforque, President
Brand Manager - ZoOSh, Bega Cheese Limited (BA 2011, MMgt 2013)
Mel is the Brand Manager of ZoOSh dressings, mayonnaise and dips at Bega Cheese Limited and loves brand marketing. Prior to her current role, Mel was the Assistant Brand Manager of VEGEMITE and completed the Marketing Graduate Program at Mondelez International. Mel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Politics and International Studies) in 2011 and a Master of Management degree in Marketing and Human Resources at Melbourne Business School, graduating in 2013. During her studies, she was the President of the Melbourne Microfinance Initiative in 2011, Melbourne Business School Graduate Ambassador, a Management tutor, as well as a Marketing Assistant for the Faculty. Mel was also awarded the inaugural University of Melbourne's 2012 Graduate Student of the Year. Mel enjoys meeting young alumni and is excited for the YAC to continue to offer the young alumni community with meaningful ways to connect with each other and the University. Outside of work and the committee, Mel enjoys travelling, long weekends spent experiencing regional Victoria and catching up with friends over a good Melbourne coffee.
Coral Lou, Vice-President
Assistant Vice President, Citigroup (BCom 2010, MFin 2012)
Coral is an Assistant Vice President in the Financial Institutions Corporate Banking team at Citigroup. Prior to her current role, Coral worked in the Corporate Finance Advisory team at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. During her studies, Coral undertook an exchange program at the University of Hong Kong and was the recipient of two travelling scholarships. Coral is also a representative on Asia Pacific Loan Market Association’s (APLMA) Young Leaders Committee which aims to provides a professional networking forum for young executives in the syndicated loan market. In addition, she is a member of the Palladian Association’s Business and Commerce circle for The MacRobertson Girls’ High School, which strives to provide business and commerce-related career resources and networking opportunities for current and alumni students. Coral was actively involved in student life at The University of Melbourne. As one of the Graduate Ambassadors at the Melbourne Business School, she was part of a professional marketing and communications unit connecting with prospective graduate students through recruitment activities and social media platforms. She was also involved in the Faculty's Career Mentoring and Leadership Award programs. Coral has been a member of the Young Alumni Committee for the Faculty of Business & Economics since 2013.
Sunny Chow, Treasurer
Project Lead/Retention Analyst, Telstra (BCom 2010) (MBA Candidate 2016 – present)
Sunny graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2010, majoring in Actuarial Studies. Upon graduation, Sunny began his career at Telstra in an analyst role, engaging with stakeholders at all levels by providing invaluable analytical work, market research and modelling exercises. Sunny has also co-founded an import and export business with his business partner and has since secured deals with a number of retail shops in Melbourne. At university, Sunny took part in a number of case studies competitions hosted by FMAA/FBE and was part of the committee of AIESEC between 2009 and 2010. He was also involved in the Faculty's Career Mentoring and Leadership Award programs as well as volunteered at Lord Mayor's Student Welcome, an award-winning event that recognises and celebrates students' contributions to the cultural life and diversity of the City of Melbourne. Sunny has been a member of the Alumni Committee since 2013 and is currently a mentor in the Faculty’s Career Mentoring Program.
Maria Teresa Sagaria, Marketing and Communications Director
Management Consultant, Accenture Digital (BA 2012 MMgt(Mktg) 2014)
Maria Teresa is a Management Consultant at Accenture Digital. A proud University of Melbourne Alumna, she earned a Bachelor of Arts (Criminology and Australian Indigenous Studies) and a Master of Management (Marketing). During her time as a student, she was a Graduate Ambassador at the Melbourne Business School and was selected to complete an intensive consulting project at Toll Global Forwarding in Hong Kong as a part of the Global Business Practicum. In her final semester of her Masters, Maria Teresa thoroughly enjoyed working casually as a Communications Officer for the Student Experience Team at the Faculty of Business and Economics delivering a digital strategy to improve current student experience. In her role at Accenture, Maria Teresa is passionate about all things digital marketing and provides analytics driven digital marketing strategy consulting to her client. As the Marketing and Communications Director for the YAC, Maria Teresa looks forward to being able to use this passion to create valuable experiences for the Faculty's young alumni. Outside of work, she is a 'foodie' and shares her culinary adventures through her foodblog @Emptyplateblog.
Laura Fernandez, Marketing and Communications Director
Student Enrichment Coordinator, The University of Melbourne (BTMgmt 2013, MMgmt 2015)
Laura graduated with a Master of Management (Management) from Melbourne Business School in 2015, having completed a Bachelor of Tourism Management (Event Management) at Bond University in 2013. She served as the Melbourne Business School Student Association’s first Promotions Coordinator, which was the highlight of her master’s degree. During this time, Laura obtained the Leaders in Communities Award, recognising her broad engagement with the university and wider community. Her work experience has seen her undertake roles both interstate and overseas, including an internship at Walt Disney World. In 2016, Laura commenced her career in the University of Melbourne’s Graduate Program. Her rotations included Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, and Student Employability and Enrichment, with the final placement in the Faculty of Business and Economics. In 2017, she joined the Young Alumni Committee as the Marketing and Communications Director and Graphic Designer. Laura enjoys using her ongoing connection with the Faculty to strengthen ties between current students and alumni.
Kartik Iyer, Events Director
Tax Consultant, ShineWing Australia (BCom 2015)
Kartik graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) in 2015, during his studies he was very involved with student societies and was the inaugural Global Microfinance Case Competition Director at the Melbourne Microfinance Initiative. Post graduating, he went down a different path to many graduates and split his time in 2016 between working at Impact Investing Australia and volunteering at The Oaktree Foundation Australia.
Outside of organising Young Alumni events, he plays he plays an integral role on the Finance Steering Committee of Ability Mate, a health based social enterprise and as Board Administrator of Climate for Change, a climate change advocacy not-for-profit.
Richard Cole, Events Director
Accountant, EY (BEng (Hons) 2012, MMng (Acct) 2015)
Coming from a mixed academic background of Engineering and Accounting, Richard has been involved in variety of different professional organisations including Young Engineers Australia as a committee member, and Oaktree as a member of their Finance Team. While studying his Masters of Management (Accounting) at the Melbourne Business School, Richard become heavily involved in the Melbourne Business School Student Association, where he organised the inaugural Business Ball in 2014 and served as Vice President in 2015. It's from this that he became interested in continuing his involvement in the University and contributing to the alumni community.
Richard currently works in EY's Core Assurance department providing financial auditing and advisory services to clients across a variety of industries, with a current focus on the health service and health technology sector. Richard is also currently an ambassador to Chartered Accountants Australia, spreading the word about how totally awesome accounting is.
Fiona Cheung, Student Member
Fiona is currently a third year BCom student at The University of Melbourne, majoring in Finance and Economics. She is actively involved in the University’s clubs and society’s scene, and is currently Vice-President of Operations at The Financial Management Association of Australia (FMAA), following her prior role of Events Director. Fiona was also previously the Alumni and Communications Officer for Enactus University of Melbourne, a non for profit student organisation that works to drive social change through the power of business.
