John Stanhope

John Stanhope is Chairman of Australia Post, his career at Telstra Corporation has spanned the period January 1967 to December 2011, a period of 45 years.  He held a number of senior positions in the company during that time, his last position being that of Chief Financial Officer and Group Managing Director, Finance from October 2003 to December 2011.  John was also appointed as an executive director of the Telstra Board in May 2009 and he held that position until his retirement in December 2011.

John's experience has covered many areas including finance, treasury, taxation, risk management and assurance, investor relations, corporate security and investigations, directorships on various boards of Telstra Corporation's national and international subsidiary companies, and membership of industry and government committees.

During his time at Telstra Corporation John also managed a number of pivotal events such as Telstra's involvement in the Federal Government's T3 sale of Telstra shares, and more recently, he took on the role of Telstra lead in negotiating the Definitive Agreements with the Federal Government and NBN Co to establish the National Broadband Network.  In addition, John was Chairman of Telstra New Zealand and was a trustee of Telstra Super for 15 years prior to leaving Telstra.

John is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD); a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute; a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM); a Certified Management Accountant; a Fellow of the Australia Society of Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA).
