Annette Kimmitt

Annette was the Melbourne Managing Partner of Ernst & Young, holding this role since September 2009. She leads a team of over 120 partners and 1600 staff and has responsibility for the firms go-to-market and client service strategies and involvement in the broader community. Prior to this Annette was the Managing Partner of the Melbourne Assurance practice and head of the firms Technical Consulting Group in Melbourne. Annette continues to work with clients as part of the Technical group and in that role is responsible for the provision of financial accounting advisory services to Ernst & Young clients.

Prior to joining Ernst & Young early in 2005 she was Senior Project Director with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), leading many of the IASBs highest profile projects. She also acted as IASB liaison with groups such as the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group, the Committee of European Securities Regulators, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the International Organisation of Securities Commissions and the Australian Accounting Standards Board. During her four years at the IASB Annette worked extensively with major corporations in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland and the United Kingdom on the practical issues arising from the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). She also led regular round-table seminars with major corporations, audit firms, accounting standard-setters and regulators in the United States and Canada on the practical issues faced by North American corporations when implementing similar US Accounting Standards.

Since joining Ernst & Young Annette's primary focus has been assisting clients in navigating and implementing IFRS. This has led to her providing advice on many high-profile and complex transactions with organisations such as Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, Suncorp-Metway, Macquarie Bank, Telstra, Orica, Computershare, Fosters, Transurban, TruEnergy, Village Roadshow, Brambles, Medibank, and Goodman Fielder. Annette has also developed significant experience in public sector reporting under Australian International Financial Reporting Standards (AIFRS), providing advice to a number of government departments and agencies. This included working with the Department of Defence on its transition to AIFRS.

Annette is a current Board member of the Committee for Melbourne and the United Nations Principles for Social Investment, the UN secretariat working to facilitate global efforts and reporting on the impact of social investment.

Annette is the author of many Australian and International exposure drafts, accounting standards, and articles on financial reporting. She is a past Victorian Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (2008-2009), and has dealt with a range of strategic, policy and member issues and engaging with a wide range of Victorian stakeholders, regulators and government.
